Astimo
Ian Stuart Bride - Designer Wedding Dresses
Astimo were appointed as Quantity Surveyors for the refurbishment and retail fit out of this Georgian-style Grade I listed building to house Ian Stuart’s exclusive award winning bridal and evening wear collections.
The historical building known as the Blewcoat School, thought to have been designed by Christopher Wren was built in 1709 as a school for the poor. It takes its name from the distinctive uniforms the pupils wore, and a statue of a Blewcoat charity boy still stands above the doorway serving as a poignant reminder of how this building became a haven of hope to so many children. It was used as a school until 1926. The National Trust purchased the property in 1954 and used it as a gift shop and information centre. As of 2013, the site was renovated by Ian Stuart and finally opened in June 2014.
The sympathetic refurbishment and fit out took 5 months to complete costing £360,000.
